Football Guides Revisited

I was throwing away the football 2011/12 betting guides and thought it would be fun to see what these newspaper specials predicted and contrast them with what really went down.

I'll start with Scotland. They guessed Celtic. They were right.

In the Championship, West Ham were their favourites. The Hammers did get promoted. However, they had to do so via the play-offs. Ironically, the actual winners, Reading, were suggested as a play-off team in the newspaper.

League One saw Charlton Athletic secure top place. In the newspaper, the team were ranked somewhere in the 'top 10'. The newspaper predicted league victory for Huddersfield. They came fourth.

The writers liked Shrewsbury Town to win League Two. They came in a close second. The actual winners - Swindon Town - were written off as only being good enough to make it to the middle of the table.

The Premier League team liked by the newspaper was Manchester United. We all know what happened there with United finishing in second place behind their neighbours, Manchester City. City were forecasted for a runners-up prize at the start of the 2011/12 season.
