BT In, ESPN Out

I was surprised to hear that BT had been succesful in its bid to get live rights to Premier League football games.

The deal will start from the 2013 season and they have apparently got the best selection of fixtures.

I'm unsure how this will affect me. I can tell you this, though - I will not buy a new cable box in order to watch a BT football channel.

And nor will a lot of people already with Sky or Virgin Media.

The most concerning aspect of this bidding war, where Sky TV won the larger portion of the football packages on offer, is how ESPN came out with zilch.

I enjoy ESPN mainly for their coverage of American sports. I'd hate to see the station give up its presence in the United Kingdom but that's what I am anticipating once they lose the subscribers who were there for Premier League games.
