It has now been at least three months since I purchased a Blackberry Playbook and I'm unsure whether I have written about it on here yet.
So, with the hope I am not repeating myself. I'd like to proclaim I hate this tablet.
When I first purchased the tablet in the January sales, I was hoping to use it to view websites that play Flash. That was the priority and it does do that.
Sometimes.
I watch the NFL Network on it when I can be bothered using it and it works. However, it keeps needing to buffer often. It gets to the point where I get fed up, turn it off and watch the channel on my computer instead.
Another good thing I can say about it is it has a slot for a HDMI cable so I can hook it up to my television. That's something unavailable on the iPad so it has that going for it.There is also the HD quality picture. It was better than the iPad for a few months, I guess the new iPad has beaten it now.
And then there are the things that annoy me the most about the Playbook.
The email client wasn't available on the tablet when I first purchased it. Yes, they released the product in the spring of last year without an email facility. A software update in February brought this service to the Playbook.
Great, yeah?
Nope..
I added my email account and ensured I had 'keep mail on server' selected. I then proceeded to delete the email that downloaded to the device. Later that morning, I logged into my Hotmail account via the website and realised my mail had been deleted from the server!
An Internet search on this problem resulted in me realising that 'keep mail on server' is not what that option means. It begs one simple question.
What does it mean!?
The lack of apps is also a black eye to the device.
The much publicised software update was supposed to have introduced the ability to play Android apps. On the day of this software update, I checked the app store and there were a few new titles but nothing that interested me.
Two months on and there is still nothing worth shouting about.
It only cost me £199 so I can be thankful that I didn't spend as much as it did when it was originally released. With that said, I wouldn't have bought it at a high end price on a tablet computer because I am happy with my laptop.I guess the drop in price should have been an indicator that it wasn't a tablet computer worth investing in.
I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
Not even a worst enemy.
