Good News For WWE

It is looking likely that WrestleMania XXVIII will become the highest grossing wrestling event in history.

The initial number, released by World Wrestling Entertainment last week, is of a 1.3 milion worldwide pay-per-view audience. This is a few thousand more than the current top drawing WrestleMania (the 2007 edition which featured the Vince McMahon versus Donald Trump head shaving stipulation in the bout between Umaga and Bobby Lashley).

A figure of around $67 million is being touted. This money includes the aforementioned pay-per-view money as well as the live gate and merchandise.

I had guessed that this would be a record setting WrestleMania but started to doubt it would be when the television ratings didn't seem to indicate a jump in interest in the months before the show.

It's going to be interesting to see how WrestleMania XXIX does next year.
