It's just gone 6am on Wednesday morning. I woke up early and was about to head off back to sleep when I decided to have a look at the news.
NFL.com is reporting what I, and everyone else, had been expecting to be announced by March 8th.
Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts are to part ways.
Manning is my favourite American football player so I'm sitting here with memories of the day Phil Stant left Cardiff City for Bury and when Peter Beardsley was given the boot from Newcastle.
Ends of eras.
When I started watching American football after many years away, I didn't know which team to root for. When I watched the Colts - and especially Peyton Manning - play, I knew they were the team for me.
I've been a fan of Manning and the Colts ever since and I'll continue following both.
In a way, my interest in the 2012 season is even more piqued. What will become of Peyton Manning and his new team? Who will Indianapolis draft as the first overall pick in the 2012 Draft?
So, yeah, I am a little disappointed in the news. However, it wasn't unexpected and will make for an intriguing couple of months.
