Blockbuster

I have spent the past few weeks reading Tom Shone's Blockbuster.

The book is a greatly-written look at the history of the Hollywood blockbuster and I learnt a lot from it.

I was born in 1979 so I have lived in a world where the blockbuster movie was a part of life. I never once thought that movies like Jaws and Star Wars were were the 'blockbuster' tag originated.

Shone's book starts off looking at Hollywood before the debut of Jaws. Then all hell breaks loose. He writes about all the major motion pictures that were developed paying close attention to those created by Steven Spielberg, George Lucase and James Cameron all the way to the new-age director in Peter Jackson.

It's filled with some great stories and historic facts. It's a must if you love movies but I would also suggest this could be used as good research material for those who study film.
