An Appropriate Description Of Terra Nova

I've been watching the new American TV series - Terra Nova -for the past few weeks but have held off from writing about it because I wanted to get a few episodes in before I offered my thoughts.

The show started off in a dystopian future where certain foods - like oranges - are scarce. Families are also only allowed to have no more than two children otherwise the parents are arrested for breaking the law.

By the end of the first episode, however, we learn that there is a way to get away from the year 2149 and that is to be elected to become part of a pilgrimage back to 85,000,000 BC via a portal where a colony exists.

The mother in the main family of the show has won a place at Terra Nova because she is a doctor and is needed at the colony. Her husband - who was jailed for harbouring their third child - escapes from his captors and joins the rest of his family (with their third child, by the way) through the portal.

When I was trying to find out the year the series started in, I found some reviews and there was one description that I was going to use myself.

I had planned on saying 'it's like Lost but with dinosaurs' but I was beaten to it.

The sub-plots are starting to pick up now so I am hoping this isn't going to end up being one of those shows I start investing my time watching only for the producers or TV stations to pull the plug.
