Going For One

I try my best not to write about X Factor on here but the news has constantly been noting how there is a battle for the Christmas number one and I think it's worth dedicating a post on.

Firstly, I don't like The X Factor. I only watch the audition shows and then that is it for the season.

I have no opinion on Rage Against The Machine, either. That's not my kind of music.

What I do have an opinion on is Simon Cowall and Cheryl Cole airing their thoughts on the campaign to get Rage to number one ahead of X Factor winner, Joe McElderry, as 'bullying' and 'mean'.

Come on now.

Am I wrong to note how The X Factor's first month of episodes each series is built on bullying and being mean to talentless people?

It's hypocritical for these two people to discredit the campaign as being bullying when they themselves have publicly humiliated countless people for the past few years in the quest for ratings.

I'd like to think that the British public has finally had enough of the monopoly this show has had on one of Britain's musical institutions - the Christmas number one.

But I know what will happen.

Wait and see if I am right on this one. McElderry will win the race and everyone will write about how he defied the odds to make it to the top.

I'd like to be wrong, though.

Simon Cowall said that the campaign was 'like David versus Goliath'.

Unfortunately, he cast the rivals in the opposing roles.

Rage Against The Machine are the real underdogs in this fight despite what you hear or read.
