A Sad Story

It was sad to read of the suicide of Hannover's goalkeeper, Robert Enke.

Enke ended his life yesterday after jumping in front of a train in the city where he played football.

It has now been revealed that he had been battling depression since 2003. An illness that developed after losing his young child to a heart ailment.

I guess the job he had didn't help him as it's the kind of profession where you're only as good as your last game.

But it's hard for me to type the previous paragraph and hit home my point as he was playing well.

He had two clean sheets in his last three games and was even named the best goalkeeper in the Bundesliga during the 2008/9 season.

It just shows the big divide between the pitch and real life.

Confidence and despair.
