Small Wonder

My nephew and I were talking about old television shows the other day.

He wanted to know what my favourite ones were when I was his age. I threw out a few titles to him explaining what they were about and then got to one that has always caused dumbfounded looks to other people that I have brought the subject up to.

Small Wonder.

No one seems to remember this show as much as I do. I've lost count with how many times I have brought this series up to others and they have had either vague or no memory of it.

It was about an American family which has a 'daughter' which is a robot that had been constructed by the father who just so happens to be an inventor or computer designer or something along those lines. A modern day Geppetto, if you will.

Each episode centred on the family trying to cover up the fact that Vicki (or V.I.C.I for Voice Input Child Identicant) was a robot to other people from their neighbourhood.

We managed to find a few episodes of it on Youtube and spent most of the weekend watching them.

I was on the phone with my nephew last night and he asked whether we would watch some more this weekend. I told him we could if he wanted to. I then heard him ask my sister whether she remembered it. It generated one of the responses I was expecting.

'Vaguely'.
