Mr Toppit

I've just finished reading Mr Toppit by Charles Elton and both my thumbs are in the middle.

I didn't love it nor did I hate it - I am just middling on it if there can be such an opinion on a book.

The main part of the story is set in the eighties but it does jump back and forward a few decades as the narrative tells its tale.

I don't really like giving too much away in these posts where I mention a book I have read so all I am willing to say on this one is that the novel is about an author who gets killed before his series of books become a worldwide hit. The story then centres around the family and other people who will become famous and rich from the popularity of these books.

I guess the overall theme of this novel is how fame can come and mess with people's lives in both a good and negative way. There's a lot of the latter in this one, though.

Regardless of how dark it gets at times, there are a few characters and moments that made me laugh out loud.
