I watched Everton play Liverpool in the FA Cup fourth round replay because there was nothing else on TV. I may as well have not bothered because I didn't see the end - even though I watched it all the way through.
I like the Merseyside derbies from time to time, I just felt that we were in for a goalless game and my heart wasn't set on it as much as previous encounters.
I was right about it being goalless, too.
Even in a 1-0 extra time victory for the Blues.
ITV1's live coverage cut off in the 118th minute and a Wickes advert played. I sat there thinking, 'what the hell is going on here?' Once the commercial finished, another one came on. At this point a thought crossed my mind.
I bet there will be a goal now that ITV has screwed up.
Within seconds of my prophecy, the coverage returned with the Everton players huddled together in celebration.
We had missed the only goal of the game.
What timing!
In 120 minutes of play with just one goal, the gremlins in the system decided to show up at the most decisive moment in the match.
Very poor.
