It looks like Diego Maradona is going to be named as the new coach of the Argentinian football side.

This appointment appears to me to be one of those celebrity signings. A way to boost morale amongst the team and its fans. Surely, there are a coaches out there with a better experience for the task at hand.

Don't get me wrong - I am no expert in South American football. It just seems like a bad appointment under the surface.

Maradona is a hero in his home country. Him coaching the National side will put tons of pressure on his iconic status and could do more harm than good.

We'll have to wait and see how he does. I am betting on it not lasting after World Cup 2010.
