An Eerie Coincidence

I spooked out someone I know the other day when I told them about an eerie coincidence that I experienced. I'm now going to share it with you.

About five or six years ago, a woman who knows my parents was ill in hospital. I didn't know her that well but I heard she was in a serious way. She was apparently on a life support machine but the word going around was that she was fighting and showing signs of strength by biting the respirator.

And then I didn't really hear anything more about her. I just assumed she got through it.

Fast forward to the present day.

Killer Kowalski, a legendary wrestler and trainer, suffered a massive heart attack. A lot of wrestling news sites picked up on the story and claimed that he was in grave health.

The following day, reports were he was showing signs of strength while on the life support machine.

Then, a number of days later, I was listening to Wrestling Observer Radio and Dave Meltzer mentioned that Kowalski was still fighting despite them not expecting him to come around.

It reminded me of the lady my parents knew. I thought about her and wondered how she is doing nowadays.

It was just days later when I was looking through the newspaper that I came across the family notices page and noticed her name.

She had died around the time I had wondered how she was doing.

I can't really end this post on a good note. It's just spooky that I had wondered about her and was then faced with the news just days later. I hadn't even thought about her until I heard about Killer Kowalski's battle for survival.

As I type this, he is still fighting for his life.

Meltzer wrote something poignant in this week's Wrestling Observer that I thought was brilliantly put:

At press time, Wladek “Killer” Kowalski was doing what he did so many times in his life, only this time he’s apparently taking control of the finish.

Known as one of the most aggressive and well-conditioned wrestlers of his era, Kowalski always battled until the end. But as a heel, in the end in many of his most famous matches, he was put down.
