I have been watching a lot of shoot interviews on Youtube recently.
Shoot interviews first became popular in the nineties when tape traders would sell videos of wrestlers that are out of character answering a plethora of questions from a hotel room.
These tapes were often conducted by Rob Feinstein from RF Video. In the years since he became popular, Feinstein was caught in a television sting attempting to meet underage boys over the Internet.
Since then, a lot of other people have jumped on the shoot interview bandwagon and created their own shoot interview brands. Unfortunately, it seems that RF Video has retained its popularity despite the owner's disgusting misdemeanours. These other companies could have carried the ball had RF Video gone bust.
The two interviews I watched this weekend featured Ken Patera and Sid Vicious.
Ken Patera's discussion was interesting. They fuelled the self-confessed alcoholic with cans of beer throughout the two and a half hour question and answer session. I don't know what to make of this. It's quite tragic in a way.
The Sid Vicious one was better. I bought the first shoot interview he did back in the mid-to-late nineties and this one picked up ten years later. The wrestler moved to ECW and then WCW after the initial interview so it offers more than other second-time interviews that are out there.
I intend to watch more of these videos over the coming days. Youtube has tons of them waiting to be viewed.
