Three weeks ago, I was looking through the channels on the cable box that is hooked up to my PC and I noticed that Diff'rent Strokes was on one of the kids' channels.
I used to love the show back when I was young; I mean really young. It must have been when I was four or five years old.
I set the Windows Media Center to record the series so, at the same time every day, it stores the two episodes in the hour block that they are on.
The shows ended up eating into my memory so I decided I would watch a few and then put them onto DVD. I watched the first episode I had recorded and my childhood memories evaporated before my eyes.
It's sad to say but I just didn't find it funny watching it twenty-four years later. I looked at the year this particular episode was filmed and it was recorded in 1982 - four years after the first episode aired.
I ended up watching another three shows but had enough. I deleted all the remaining WMV files that were taking up valuable space on my hardrive.
I'm not giving up, though.
My thinking is the show was just unfunny back in 1982 because they had used up all they had in the first few seasons. I may have to wait until I get to see the reruns of the 1978 episodes as the show lasted until 1986.
I remember one episode from its latter years where they went camping to view Halley's Comet. This would have been in late '85 or early '86 so I am looking forward to viewing this one again.
Until then, I'm going to keep recording and deleting until I get back to the earlier seasons with a short stop at the Halley's Comet episode along the way.
