I was looking through the Pro Wrestling Torch's VIP message board the other day and noticed a thread asking if anyone was interested in a fantasy league for Total Nonstop Action television and pay-per-view shows.
They needed eight members to take part and there were seven already registered. I thought I would give it a go despite how much I hate TNA Wrestling.
Once we were all in, the draft part of the game took place.
We each had to pick a player in turn and had five hours to make our decision. Similar in ways to how professional sports teams are 'on the clock' in their league drafts. It didn't really last as long as that, though. I think we all had our picks made within two days.
As I was the eighth person to enter, I had to make the final pick in round one. Then - in round two - I was the first to select. This sequence continued until I made the final overall pick in round five.
Here are the wrestlers I selected in each round:
Round 1 - Abyss
Round 2 - Kevin Nash
Round 3 - ODB
Round 4 - Roxxi Laveaux
Round 5 - Shawn Daivari
I'm not sure how I will do. I made a gamble when I picked Kevin Nash in round two considering he hasn't wrestled for them in a while. I think they are building up towards a big feud with him and TNA World champion, Samoa Joe - so it is worth the risk to have him as my ace card. It would have been a less riskier gamble if I had picked him later in the draft but I couldn't guarantee he would be available so took my chance.
Having two female wrestlers may also appear to be risky but I think they have a better chance of being on TV each week because, for some reason, the women matches increase ratings so they will be featured often if TNA producers realise the trend that viewers seem to prefer the Knockout Division.
Shawn Daivari will be part of the International X Cup tournament. He was brought in specifically for this. I think he will be signed to a long-term contract so that's why I chose him.
My first round pick is the only one I am one hundred percent sure about. Abyss has just returned from a brief absence and I'm sure he is going to be lined up for prominent story lines for the next three months.
