I took part in Poker Player magazine's Grand Prix freeroll tonight and finished in two hundred and sixty-third place after losing concentration just before the start of hour number two.
Eight hundred and twenty-five people took part in the tournament where its winner will automatically qualify for a live final to be held in London next Summer.
A further nine tournaments will be played from now until May. The ten winners as well as the top thirty point scorers over the course of the series of games will then battle it out for a place in next Autumn's World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE).
If I were to be honest with my play tonight then I must admit I became cocky and it was my downfall. I went all-in in early position with a pair of sevens. I went up against a caller who had kings and he hit a flush. The river card was another seven and I raised my arms in triumph until I glanced over to see that one of my rival's cards was the king of hearts thus making his flush better than my three of a kind.
I'll be back for round two on December 10th.
