The Pro Wrestling Torch newsletter is celebrating its 1000th issue this week. Wade Keller - the owner and editor of the weekly journal - first started printing it twenty years ago.
The first time I ever heard of this journal was in late-1992 when I would see it advertised inside Wrestling Eye magazine. As I was from the UK and the newsletter was published out of Minnesota I didn't know how I could have subscribed to it especially seeing as I was only thirteen at the time.
Eight years later, things changed. The Internet made the Torch more accessible and I was able to look on their site for news. The world of wrestling was seeing one of its boom periods and the Torch and Wrestling Observer helped with their news and articles.
I sampled an issue of the newsletter in 2000 and subscribed on and off for a few years. In the late part of 2004 I noticed that there was more to subscribing to the print-based paper than I had expected. On the members area of the site are numerous audio shows, a back issue library and a message board where fellow subscribers interact. I haven't stopped my subscription since!
The audio content was increased well over a year ago when Wade Keller made regular daily updates. My daily routine has changed because of it. I would usually wake up and then go make breakfast. Nowadays, I wake up and check if there is a new Keller audio waiting on the site. Once it's over my proper day begins.
I urge all wrestling fans to give this newsletter a go. The payment method I use is with Paypal, I believe that it's the easiest way to subscribe when you are living outside of the USA.
I just wish that the Internet was as popular in 1992 as it is today because I would have been a subscriber sooner.
