A League Of Our Own

I take part in a fantasy football league nearly every year. I first started doing this in 1994 during the boom period of these types of tournament. I wasn't that good then, nor am I now.

In the 90's the way to play was difficult. Team changes were made via post so you had to pick the right time to change your team and make sure your letter was posted in time with the deadline.

The internet has made fantasy football even easier to do. It has also made it cheaper.

There are many sites out there that have free fantasy football tournaments. Back in the day it was a few pounds to enter, now you can enter for nothing which makes it even more competitive.

I joined the official Premier League's competiion this past season.

One of the good things about the Premier League's fantasy football game was the ability to have all your friends in a mini-league. I was part of a league made up of users of the Paltalk program which most of us use to play trivia games.

My team was named the 'Equinoxx All Stars' and I started off fairly well. But - as usually happens to me - by the middle of the season my passion for the compeition waned and I ended up not taking as much care and thought into my cionsiderations.

There was a little feud brewing, though.

One of my friends on this program is a guy called Nigel. He goes around with the nickname 'turbo_chef' and he is one of the nuttiest people I have ever had the privelage of never meeting.

His team 'Sex God United' was neck and neck with me for a majority of the season and we had a little side bet going on. I was confident that I would end up finishing higher than him at the end of the season so I said that if I lost to him I would head off to Bristol and sing a duet with him on one of his karaoke nights.

You see, this guy thinks he can sing just as much as I think I am the greatest internet poker player that has ever lived.

I can't sing either.

And so we took our feud to the forums of the Paltalk Premier League's message board and I even compared myself to Jose Mourinho and he was Alex Ferguson.

Ironically, my analogy worked out being prophetic as Jose blew it as well.

Sex God United beat the Equinoxx All Stars by one hundred and fifty-one points. I now have to deliver the promise I made.

Maybe I will try and do double or quits next year.

The winner of the Paltalk Premier League was Monkey_Magic. He was the person whose idea it was to bring our teams together for the mini-league so the right person won! The loser was Pretty Vacant who I have picked as the potential winner next season. He took a few weeks to catch on to how to play the game correctly but when he did he did good. Unfortunately, it was too late for him but I know for sure he will improve next year. The only way is up!
