The Lecture

I thought I would kill some time last night so joined in a $0.10/0.20 stakes table on Ladbrokes.

The first hand I was dealt was pocket aces so it seemed like the ideal start. I slow-played the hand preflop and then made a straight bet after the flop.

Everyone folded around me.

Then - a few minutes later - a pair of kings were in my posssession. Knowing that the stakes were low and Ladbrokes does tend to favour the underdog I decided to make my move and raised to four times the pot.

I had one caller who made a fold after I went all-in after the flop with the remaining seven dollars I had left.

I showed my cards and he went into a tirade telling me how I played the hand wrong.

I politely told him that I wasn't going to risk a bad beat on the site known for bad beats and it ignited more rage in my rival.

I loved winding this guy up. I egged him on even more by asking what a professional was doing on these low stakes tables.

After tiring of his criticism I ignored the rest of his lecture and he gave up and left the table.

My parting shot was one that deserves a mention.

'Joe Hachem must have got bored playing with us.'

I hope he saw it.
