At the No Mercy pay-per-view this past Sunday the WWE aired a number of skits around the humourous William Regal character.
One of these segments featured him coming out of the shower and having a brief interaction with Vito about the size of their manhood. It resulted in Regal running away with his towel covering his front but the camera showing his rear for comedic purposes.
The following day the WWE had to make a statement apologizing for the storyline as Regal's penis was shown for a second or two.
The statement claims that the conduct was unacceptable in a family-friendly environment and the company has taken full responsibility.
A fair comment?
I disagree.
This is hypocritical of the company to respond in this way as their main promotion for tonight's ECW show is a live strip poker contest between the women of ECW, Raw and Smackdown.
How a company can say they are being family-friendly on one page of their website and then advertise tonight's ECW show with a false promise of seeing someone naked is astounding.
We all know that they won't deliver and maybe this press release following Regal's wardrobe malfunction is a way to make the viewers aware that they won't see anything. This, of course, defeats the purpose of advertising strip poker in the first place.
I also think the WWE smartly made this press release in a manner in that they appeared in remorse for what happened but with a deeper message to the fans to watch tonight's ECW in the hope that another mishap occurs.
