In the course of history, there are defining moments that change the fabric of a company forever. These are moments that that are spoken about for years, not days, and serve as benchmarks in the annals of a company's growth. And on occasion, those moments transcend the individual company and re-write the history of an industry. This Sunday at at the No Surrender pay-per-view, an announcement will be made that will do just that. You will not want to miss the No Surrender PPV.
-Dixie Carter, President of TNA Wrestling
Hyperbole?
Last night the questions were answered when the TNA announced that they had signed Kurt Angle to a contract.
Yes - the same Kurt Angle who was released by the WWE a few weeks ago after the company felt it was in his best interest for their relationship to be ended.
As has been reported in other wrestling news sources, Angle has been suffering with addictions to pain medicine and this was one of the factors in his release.
The WWE wouldn't have let one of the best performers of this era go for nothing.
Then comes the TNA and they 'save' Kurt Angle.
Bullshit.
People with addiction and health issues don't just get over them in three weeks. The WWE wellness policy was installed in a way that will help performers with issues like what Kurt Angle has been battling. The company realised there was a problem and it led to them having to fire Angle because he refused to help himself.
The TNA are setting a terrible precedent here by signing up someone who failed the wellness policy. It's going to make Vince McMahon and the WWE think twice before letting someone go the next time in fear that they show up for the competition.
Dixie Carter may have been right when she said the Angle signing is going to change the face of the industry.
But as the possibility of more wrestler deaths opens up it's obviously a change back to the worst.
