Going Straight

I was almost asleep. It was nearly midnight and the house was hot. I had been awake since seven this morning and knew I needed sleep but a game of poker was too tempting.

I joined a $10 freezeout with six seater tables and had an up and down game in the first hour but in this hour something special happened.

I hit a straight flush. My second in a fortnight!

I was holding a 5 and a 3 of spades and the flop had an ace and a 2 of the suit. As I was the first to act between me and the player who was left in the hand I decided to check. He made a bet and I called. Then the turn card came out as a 4 and then I hoped the other person had a flush so I could knock him out of the tournament.

He did.

I had a chorus of 'vnh' and 'nh' thrown at me by the other players at the table surprised at what I had accomplished.

The strangest thing about all this is I have been playing for eighteen months now and I have had a straight flush twice and they were exactly two weeks apart.

I was unable to capture the first straight flush using my print screen button on my keyboard but this time I made sure the moment was saved. I will probably send the screenshot in to World Poker Tour Magazine and see if they publish it. They have this feature in there each month where readers send in their pictures.

As for the tournament - I finished fifth out of ninety seven. I made $53.35 for the three hours sat in the heat.

Not bad for someone suffering from sleep deprivation.
