Dead On Revival

I was cautious when the WWE announced the rebirth of ECW. I have known the WWE to botch up ideas in the past and I think I was right on the money this time as well.

The return of ECW has been nothing but a disaster.

Firstly, the debut episode was a shambles that represented a regular episode of Raw or Smackdown. This was not meant to have happened as Vince McMahon assured everyone that the production would appear different to the regular shows and would have the old ECW feel to it. It didn't.

The ratings, despite being good for the Sci-Fi Network, have been falling week by week. It isn't a steep drop but is a drop nonetheless.

Then there was the return home to the place where ECW was born. The old ECW arena. The show was reported to have been poor for a house show and the vociferous crowd made a point of telling the WWE management that they did not like the product with their 'This Show Sucks' and 'Fuck You, Vince' chants.

Then the biggest problem seems to be the talent. A few weeks ago, Kurt Angle was brought into ECW as the headliner but just last week he has been taken off the road indefinitely due to being broken down due to injuries he has been carrying for years.

The ECW roster could still be carried by top stars like Sabu and the WWE and ECW World Champion Rob Van Dam despite the loss of Angle.

Or could it?

Last night Sabu and RVD were stopped by police in Ohio after a show and their car was searched. Both wrestlers were found holding illegal substances on their person so it seems there is a lot more headaches for WWE personnel to deal with over the next few days.

The WWE champion being caught travelling with drugs is a big issue and there will surely be a punishment of some kind.

The real punishment, however, is on the fans having to sit through all this McECW crap.
