A Trip Down Memory Street

In the late 1980's one of the first things I saw on SKY television was the TV series called 21 Jump Street.

I remember it vividly, the pilot episode aired on the Sunday night two days before I went back for my final year in junior school.

The series, based in the USA, was about a group of undercover police officers who worked within the schools to fight crimes such as drugs, race hate, rape and anything and everything in between.

This is the show that made Johnny Depp a household name over-night as he was the main star of the series playing the character of Tom Hansen.

Back in my class during 1989 it was rare to have satellite televion but there were three of us who had it and we all watched 21 Jump Street every Sunday night and it was the basis of our playground chats for the days following.

I have had the opportunity to watch these episodes again over the past year due to Anchor Bay releasing the seasons on DVD. The third set arrived through my letter box yesterday morning and I have spent part of the weekend watching some episodes and reminiscing of those Sunday evenings and realised that 21 Jump Street was our bridge from the end of one week to the beginning of another.
