All Eyes On Denmark

I am not confident at all in Wales' chance of beating Denmark - in the next round of Euro 2020 - later today.

The game, set to kick off at 5PM BST, will be the first of the knockout stages in this year's (or maybe that should be last year's?) tournament.

I see Wales as wily underdogs that are embraced by impartial fans when it comes to International football. The irony of today's game is they are not playing that role.

With Denmark's Christian Eriksen surviving a cardiac arrest in his team's opening game, the football world has been rooting for the Danes ever since.

The bookies have Wales priced as the underdogs. And that's fair. What is also reasonable to conclude is the consensus wants Denmark to be the Cinderella men of the tournament. Especially after the shocking scene that played out in their first group game of the tourney.

I'd obviously want there to be an upset today, but - if Wales does indeed leave the tournament at this stage - I hope Denmark builds on the win and progresses beyond the next game.

That would be a cool story to see play out.

From near tragedy to triumph.
