It was here that I found out that Chris Needs had died.
Needs was a presenter on BBC Radio Wales. He used to host a popular show on weeknights.
I have to be honest - I rarely listened to the show. Not because I didn't want to. It's just that I would find myself doing things other than listening to the radio at that time of night.
With that said, my father listened to Chris Needs on occasions and - whenever I would catch the broadcasts - I would always be surprised at how nice the presenter was to his listeners/callers.
It was like listening to friends chatting to each other rather than a presenter conversing with one of his callers.
Needs built a community of listeners by giving them plots in what he would call 'The Friendly Garden'. It was kind of like a club in which everyone was welcome and everyone was given a membership by getting the number.
From day one of knowing about 'The Garden', I felt that it was such an awesome creation because I am confident that Needs might have been the only person some of those people may have had for company late at night.
It was those people I thought of immediately after learning of Needs' passing.
