Red

On May 11th, I wrote about the Cardiff City's attempt at getting the team to change its home colour from blue to red and the letter of warning that was sent to the supporters after the club owners backed down from the idea. I ended my post with the feeling that 'there may be trouble ahead'.

A little less than a month later, the owners made a U-turn and the team will now have a red home kit to go with the new crest featuring a dragon. Cardiff City's nickname of the 'Bluebirds' is now defunct. Instead, they are 'Dragons'.

As I write this, I still do not even know what to think of this entire situation.

I'm not a die hard fan of Cardiff City so my opinion is not worth much. I know people who do follow the club at a feverish level who are angry at the changes and I can see where they are coming from.

I can also see the point of those in the red corner who believe that a change in shirt colour can help the club in the long run.

As part of this rebranding, one hundred million pounds is apparently going to be invested into the club in order to expand Cardiff City Stadium, build a new training centre and - possibly most important of all - settle outstanding debts that have been looming over the club for many years.

At this moment in time, I cannot argue for or against the colour change as it's a matter of past versus future.

It's time that will prove whether or not this rebranding is - or was - a success for Cardiff City.
