Season Kick-Off

Tonight - or rather in the early hours of tomorrow morning - sees the start of the NFL 2010/11 season.

Finally.

The Minnesota Vikings will be taking on the New Orleans Saints in a rematch from their NFC Conference final where Minnesota lost and thus gave the Saints a slot in the Super Bowl.

The Saints went on to win the big one.

Stan James bookmakers have an offer where all losing bets on the next Super Bowl winner will be refunded if New Orleans win again.

Don't be fooled by that offer - it's very rare that a defending Super Bowl champion repeats.

I have laid out a few bets over the past few months on the team I think will win.

I haven't gone for my favourite team - the Indianapolis Colts - because they are the favourites. Instead, I have chosen the Chicago Bears. The Bears had a woeful season last year and things can only get better.

Or so I hope.

I'm not looking at them to win anything major this year but I also have an eye on the Detroit Lions.

The team have been dreadful in seasons past but things could turn around for them. There is a bet on how many games they will win this year and the line at 5.5 is very tempting for the over.

Anyway, that's me for the day. I am sure you'll read about my own wins and losses over the next five months.
