A Tackle And A Deep Dive

I had a really nice memory of a chat with Vicki brought to me thanks to Oreo yesterday evening.

Yep, it was my cat which triggered it.

Oreo and I  had been in the living room in the early evening. I was on the sofa and he was on the beam under the table (he likes it there for some reason!). I then decided to get up and walk to another part of the room. As I was returning to my place, I felt Oreo's legs wrapped around my left leg* and then he took a playful bite out of my calf.

'He used to do this upstairs before I'd go to bed,' I told everyone with me at home.

A few hours later, I was sat on my bed watching TV. Oreo was rolling around beside me and it made me think back to his tackle from earlier in the evening.

'I remember telling Vick about the first time he did that,' I thought to myself. I picked up my phone to check if there was a history of that particular conversation on my old Twitter messages.

'Tackled' was the first word I put in. No luck.

I then attempted 'tackle'.

Result!

Can you see above where I put the asterisk? Well, the reason will become clear when you read the chat.

*I stand by what I said in that conversation. Oreo had arms, I say. Arms!

You'd think that would be it, right? A nice little memory of a funny exchange between Vick and I. Well, as the great Lee Corso would say - 'Not so fast, my friend.'

I checked up the date of the messages. I couldn't believe it. The time of that part of the conversation was at 00:38 BST on... October 13th 2024. So, it'll be the anniversary of it tonight.

Of all the times Oreo could have resumed tackling me out of nowhere, it occurred almost to the day.

It doesn't even end there.

I was watching the Oklahoma at Texas College Football game whilst doing the search on my phone. As I have written in the past, Vicki and I were following Arch Manning's career so I have kept the tradition by watching Texas whenever I get the opportunity to do so.

At the game's conclusion, the camera showed Cooper Manning (Arch's father). The commentators mentioned how large Manning's cowboy hat had been the last time Oklahoma and Texas had played against each other.

'OH! WOW!' I exclaimed.

When looking for the date of the conversation, I saw a photo of a man wearing a foam cowboy hat. Before Oreo's tackle, I had joked with Vick that Cooper Manning was wearing a cowboy hat which reminded me of the giant foam ones I had seen at The American Adventure theme park in the 80s (Is that still around!?).

Vick and I had been watching that Oklahoma versus Texas game on that very same night before Oreo's first tackle.

And for Oreo to have not done that for months and to resume it last night, of all nights - leading me to do the deep dive into the past - well, I have no words but...

Wow.
