Yesterday's Trivia Note

There was an interesting trivia note on the page of yesterday's Indianapolis Colts page-a-day diary.

I consider it interesting because it's all about a game which took place yesterday in 1995.

As I'm sure regular visitors will be aware by now, my NFL betting history database goes all the way back to '95, of all years, so I thought I'd look it up.

The trivia note mentions that on October 8th '95, 'for the second time in a month the Colts overcame a 24-3 deficit on the road to win, 27-24 in overtime'.

The opponents of the October 8th meeting were the Miami Dolphins. Indy entered the game as +10 underdogs. The total was 44, so it went Over.

Indianapolis' earlier comeback, from being 24-3 down, occurred in week two's visit to the New York Jets. A game they covered as -2.5 favourites. That result also flew Over the total albeit at a lower 37.

Yesterday's page asked 'what future NFL head coach passed for three touchdowns in the second half to rally Indianapolis past Miami?'

That was an easy one for me. The answer is Jim Harbaugh. Ironically, he'll be up against the Miami Dolphins this weekend as well - albeit on the sidelines - as head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers.
