I Try Burger King's The Wagyu

I recently found out that Burger King has brought out a Wagyu burger and have gone so far as to have it endorsed by Gordon Ramsay of all people.

Upon finding out the news, I thought -to myself -  and you know what's coming - 'I have gotta try that!'

And so, the following day, I decided to buy BK's new product using Just Eat or UberEats

Not so fast, my friend.

I would eventually learn that Deliveroo had the early exclusive deal to sell The Wagyu.

Even though I have a Deliveroo account, and have used the service in the past, I couldn't be bothered going through the hassle of retrieving my password, downloading the app again, and everything in between.

I decided to wait out a fortnight.

When the time finally arrived, I bought The Wagyu meal using my Just Eats account. That turned out to be the best option, compared to UberEats, because I was given a £7 discount.

The burger arrived in a very posh 'Gourmet Kings' box. I have had burgers in the 'Gourmet Kings' range in the past, but cannot recollect ever having the sandwich in something so impressive.

I know Burger King is a fast food establishment, but this packaging immediately made me think I was about to eat something special.

Just look at how it's presented upon opening the box as well.

The burger itself is made of 100% British wagyu beef. On top of the beef is a trifecta of onions (sweet caramelised, pink, and crispy) as well as a peppery rocket. Those toppings are met with a creamy mayonnaise which is also onion-flavoured.

As you'll see in the images above, the beef and the other contents are sandwiched inside a seeded brioche bun.

It didn't feel like I was given more or less of what was needed to make the burger. It felt just right. The meat was cooked well and very enjoyable.

I read, and watched, a few reviews during the couple of weeks between finding out about The Wagyu's existence and the ability to order the product with my UberEats/Just Eat accounts. There seemed to be a consensus which complained about the burger not having cheese.

Upon reflection - I kind of see their point to a certain degree. An onion-flavoured cheese would have fit the theme, but the addition could have led to a a subtraction in the point of the mayonnaise's flavour being oniony.

The Wagyu is very expensive (and I state that knowing I had £7 off my order) contrasted with other Burgers from BK. However, everything about the meal - from the box opening right through to the finishing off -  was an enjoyable one-off experience.
