On January 1st of this year, one of the things I said would happen in 2025 went like this:
I will read at least seven Stephen King books in 2025
That goal was less than my usual King targets because I had three books from the Dark Tower Series on my 'To Read' list and I envisioned all those titles to be huge.
I managed to complete that aim on Sunday September 7th, when I finished the seventh book in the Dark Tower series - The Dark Tower.
As far as I'm aware, there is at least another Dark Tower book that was published after the conclusion. However, the story is set somewhere in the middle of everything. I'll get to that eventually.
I enjoyed The Dark Tower novels. I was so all-in reading the final books that I found myself getting quite emotional when certain things happened to the characters (no spoilers!). I felt that some of the real-life things I have been going through made the relationships between the characters resonate more to me than they usually could have.
In the back of my mind, I feel I finished reading those novels at one of the most perfect moments in my life.
Even if it is an imperfect time.
As far as my journey through Stephen King's novels and short story collections - I am now at fifty-one read and (at least) twenty-seven to go.
I'll likely have a few more read by the end of 2025. However, I cannot envision reading any more until a few months from now. Next up are the titles on the Booker Prize Shortlist.
I'll find out those books next week and will then begin my annual Booker Prize Marathon (I hope!).
