A Truly Unexpected Gift

I have had an unopened package here at home for two weeks. There's a reason why I have been reluctant to open it.

It came with the post and was addressed to my house. However, the name at the top of the label was not mine. Or anybody else from my family for that matter.

I decided not to open the package and looked the person up to see if they lived nearby. I actually did find someone with the name on the label. However, there was a very minor change to the way their name is spelt. With that said, I was one hundred percent sure that was the person.

So - the plan was to contact that person through social media. Somehow. Before I got that far, a new idea struck me.

I looked at the package to see if I could work out which company had sent it. That was the easiest task and something I should have done first.

Anyway, I found the website of the company and entered the live chat to explain the situation. The person I communicated with had a look at my address and compared it with their orders and worked out what the problem must have been and told me that they would reach out to the customer and tell them a mistake had been made.

I offered to forward the package on, but I suppose that would have - rightly - been against data protection.

The company representative asked me to throw the package away, but then told me there was chocolate inside and said I could have it.

I thanked them and was about to open the package before a thought hit me - the person who sent the package would have my address on their receipt. So, I made the decision to keep the item unopened for a week just in case they called by to collect the gift (even though the company had told me they would help the customer out!).

So, the decision to wait a week has turned into a fortnight. I think it's time to open it up.

Wow, I expected only chocolate. And there is some here. However, there is also a card (in its envelope). No wonder they asked me to destroy the package. There is no way I am going to open this envelope. That will get torn up as soon as I've published this post.

As for the chocolate - it looks delicious.
