I came across an interesting gambling story on TAFKA Twitter on Friday night. It has me invested in seeing an NFL game I had little interest in watching at the start of the week.
A Kentuckian has placed $3.1 Million on the Philadelphia Eagles to beat the Carolina Panthers in one of today's fixtures.
The money line bet was taken by Circa Sports and has the Eagles as -700 favourites in US odds. The UK conversion is 1/7. So - should the bet win - the punter is looking to get a return of over $3.5 Million. If my calculator is correct, the profit should be something like $442,857.14.
I have taken a look over my database to see whether it likes the gamble.
The Eagles are 8-5 (62%) straight up against the Panthers in all meetings between the two teams. They're at 4-3 (57%) straight up when those games have been played with Philly as the home side.
I suppose the historical stats are siding with the Eagles.
But, is it worth the gamble?!
Update: The game was far too close for comfort, if you ask me. The Eagles won 22-16, but Carolina almost scored a touchdown late in the game. It was back-and-forth. The punter must have been on one heck of a rollercoaster ride.
