DraftKings Leaves The UK

There was an email from DraftKings waiting for me in my junk mail folder on Friday.

Draft Kings Leaves The UK

The header is wrong. The crown could never be mine. Not now, anyway.

The firm announced, inside the email, that 'effective immediately' DraftKings will no longer offer daily fantasy sports contests to customers 'physically in Great Britain'.

I should have seen the writing on the wall in June when Paddy Power closed its fantasy sports operation. The Irish bookmaking company had used DraftKings' fantasy sports contests for its coverage.

In the aforementioned post from the summer, I wrote about having to choose another fantasy sports platform for the 2024 NFL season. I opted to return to DraftKings, but only found myself playing one weekend there.

Considering I had stopped publishing posts with my fantasy teams each Sunday, like I had done for previous NFL Sundays, I didn't feel compelled to play DFS frequently.

I cannot say I'll miss DraftKings.

I was excited to see the company launch its operations here in the UK, but I soon lost enthusiasm for the brand itself hence me making the decision to play in its games via Paddy Power rather than directly with DK.

If you're in the UK, and still have money in your DraftKings account, you should head over to its website ASAP and find out how you can withdraw your funds. You have until June 3rd 2025 to do so, but I'd advise getting it done immediately.
