Fanta Afterlife

I came across a new Fanta that has been brought out to coincide with the release of the BeetleJuice sequel.

The drink, which is named Fanta Afterlife, was on the Asda website when I was doing an online shop a fortnight ago. I added it to my trolley but - when delivery day arrived - the product was unavailable.

I gave it another go with this week's shop. It was, once again, out of stock.

Refusing to give in, I was able to get a bottle from Iceland. The Iceland website even has one customer review which, even though it has been given one star, made me curious to try the product even more.

The shopper states that Fanta Afterlife left them disappointed because 'it tasted like someone mixed apple juice with Barr's Bubblegum juice (sic) together'.

I like Barr's Bubblegum flavour pop. And I also enjoy apple flavoured drinks. To me, that sounds like an intriguing combo.

So, for this post, I decided to give the drink a 'live' tasting. You'll see my initial thoughts below the picture.

Fanta Afterlife

The label states that the drink is 'Apple Zero Sugar' so - along with the Iceland reviewer's spoiler (of sorts!) - I expected the drink to taste of apple.

And it did. Kind of.

The apple came as an aftertaste (is that why it's called 'Afterlife' !?). I get what the reviewer meant by saying there was a bubblegum flavour to it. I didn't get that sensation, though. Seeing the green liquid before I put the cup to my mouth made me initially think I was drinking washing up liquid before the apple struck me.

No, I'm not saying it tasted like washing up liquid. My mind tricked me into thinking so. I don't really know what the initial flavour was. To try and explain it more clearly: It wasn't appley before everything was appley.

It was not a nice feeling initially. I am disappointed with this drink. Especially after the two failed attempts at ordering it.
