Magnum P.I. Cancelled

The fourth season of Magnum P.I. ended its run on Sky last week, so - as soon as I saw the season finale - I went onto the Internet to find out if it had been renewed or cancelled.

My search found nothing. The decision on the show's future had yet to be made.

I woke up at 6AM this morning. For a peculiar reason, the first thing I thought to myself was 'check to see if Magnum has been renewed'.

Call it a gut instinct.

Unlike a week ago, my search found something.

And it wasn't good.

CBS has cancelled the programme.

Set in Hawaii, Magnum P.I. was about a former Navy SEAL who has become a private investigator. It starred Jay Hernandez as the titular character. It was a reboot of the popular 1980's series which starred Tom Selleck.

The new view of the series saw Magnum's business partner and friend - Higgins - played by Perdita Weeks (an actress who was born in my neck of the woods!). In the 80's, the Higgins character was male, so it was an intriguing difference to have Weeks in that role.

Magnum P.I. Cancelled by CBS

Throughout the four years, there was a tease of a romantic connection between Magnum and Higgins and the will-they-won't-they subplot was settled in the final episode of season four when they both kissed after admitting they had feelings for each other.

With the benefit of hindsight, it was a fitting way to close the series. If it had to end, that is. I personally felt that there was the opportunity for more chapters to be written now that Magnum and Higgins were officially an item.

Hernandez and Weeks were supported by a great cast. I am very sorry to see it go.
