Doing A Kriss Kross 4

It's the time of the week where I play a criss cross puzzle and time myself to see how long it takes me.

This week, I'm back to the quick Kriss Kross puzzles that can be found in the Sunday supplements of The Sun's TV soap guide.

In this one, the shaded boxes are meant to spell out the name of a 'former Emmerdale character'. I haven't watched Emmerdale in five years or so. Therefore, I am hoping the character is 'former' enough for me to know who it is!

I did not do too good on the guessing the name part. In fact, with the clock close to hitting five minutes, I made the decision to cheat and look it up. The puzzle had been completed long before that, but I didn't stop the clock immediately afterwards as I wanted to try and guess the name before I did.

The O, M, I, D, L, A, N, E spelled out DI Malone. 

It must have been a recent character because I have no idea who he or she is.
