Plus Three

I had a successful bet on the NFL last night.

The Baltimore Ravens showed up in a trio of betting angles I like to sometimes have a wager on, so thought it was worth backing the team - as +3 home underdogs - against the New England Patriots.

First, they appeared in my 'Beat the Champs' system where I like to gamble against the Super Bowl champions as teams play up to their rivals (I also bet against their previous and upcoming opponents for other reasons due to raising and lowering their game in the weeks before and after they meet the Super Bowl winners).

Another angle is to side with teams that are coming off a bye week. Baltimore fit into that one as well.

Finally, even though I don't usually run with this, a system recommended a play against the Patriots because they have a bye week next week. The feeling is you should have the teams with an upcoming bye as they're looking ahead to the week off. This betting angle has been crappy this season as it had a 3-9 win-loss rate before this weekend. When all is said and done after this week, it'll be at 5-11 which is still not good.

As for Baltimore, the team didn't just cover the three-point spread. They won outright with a score of 37-20 and ended the Patriots' current undefeated streak.
