Out Of Character

I received a text from my friend over the weekend asking if I remembered somebody from school. It turns out that my friend had sort of forgotten how he knew this fellow, so wanted to see if my memory would help.

It did.

To be fair - this person wasn't a friend of mine. Just somebody I knew. He was in the top set, so I didn't know him at all during school. He did, however, end up in a sixth form college class with me and I sort of got to know him better then because he would sit next to me in that class.

I remember him to be clever and level-headed. Keep that in mind.

So, after being asked whether I could remember where we knew him from, I looked him up on Twitter to see if I could find a picture to clarify with my friend whether it's the same person. To cut a long story short, it was.

As I was about to close the browser, curiosity got the better of me. I looked through some of his tweets.

I now wish I hadn't.

I don't want to stir any trouble up for him, but the guy has either turned into a jerk or was one all along. He's on the site complaining to restaurants and supermarkets about their service. That's fair enough. However, there's one complaint he made that got to me.

He moaned to the customer services of a shop after being asked by one of its staff members whether he would like to donate to a charity.

I really don't want to give too much detail, but it was shocking to see him complain about the shop doing something for what I regard as a decent - and very popular - charity. He has a right to say no, but I thought the way he went about complaining about the staff trying to help a good cause was out of character.

Or rather out of the character that I thought I knew.
