Vivean Gray

The actress who played one of soap's most iconic characters passed away the other day.

Vivean Gray - who portrayed the character of Mrs. Mangel in Neighbours - lived to be 92 years old.

Mrs Mangel was a busybody who appeared in the soap during its heyday and was played the character so well that, according to reports, she would get hassled in the street.

She was born in the UK, but went over to Australia in the 1950's to pursue an acting career. She featured in some of the country's most popular shows like Prisoner and The Sullivans.

After leaving Neighbours in 1988, she returned to her home country.

One thing that surprised me when reading her obituaries yesterday was the fact that her tenure in Neighbours only lasted two years. It seemed much longer than that!
