Frankly, I don't Give A Damn About Your Movie

Frank Sidebottom was a legend. Make no mistake about it.

The papier mache headed comedian and musician died a number of years ago and elements of his life are said to have inspired a movie that's due to be released in May.

I have seen the trailer of Frank.

That is not Frank.

Apparently, Chris Sievey - the man under the mask - gave his blessing to the project before he passed away.  So - I guess I have to be okay with it, right?

Wrong.

The 'Frank' in this movie is American. Played by Michael Fassbender, if that's worth anything. It is also set in America.

America?

It's a long way away from Timperly, the town that Frank Sidebottom put on the map.

I think the only inspiration this film garnered from Mr. Sidebottom is that the main character plays music and wears a papier mache head.

Oh, and his name is also Frank.

As funny as this may sound to fellow Frank Sidebottom fans, I am afraid that this vehicle will make Sidebottom's life work nothing more than fiction. New audiences will only learn of Frank via this move. And that's a damn shame.

With that said, I'm going to watch it. I really am.
