Rafa's Rant

It has been a few days since Rafa Benitez made his comments about the Chelsea fans and the people who employed him and I still haven't offered my opinion on the incident.

For those who don't know, or are reading this years from now and need context, Benitez was enlisted as the interim Chelsea manager late last year.

Since this appointment, a large portion of Chelsea supporters have voiced their displeasure towards Benitez.

During an interview, earlier this week, the manager was critical of the naysayers and made a point of saying that the 'interim' tag was a huge mistake brought on by the people who run Chelsea Football Club.

I sort of see what he is on about.

The 'interim' tag was a mistake. The best way I can describe it is with an analogy.

When you had a supply teacher at school, did you ever mess around in class knowing that the teacher wasn't going to be around for long?

You can use that mentality here. Benitez is not in for the long haul, and the fans are well aware so will give the guy hell more so than they would if he was given the job on a full-time basis.

The mentality spreads further.

How do you expect a team to play at their best when they know the person who is in charge of them is off once the season ends?

It would have probably been best for Benitez to keep his mouth shut, but I can certainly see where he is coming from.
