Lost in the announcement that Silver Vision and WWE are going to part ways at the end of the year was the fact that WWE are releasing a DVD set dedicated to the New World Order.
The NWO - or nWo - were the group led by Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash and Scott Hall in World Championship Wrestling during the mid-to-late 1990s.
The storyline involving the faction led to WCW being the hottest wrestling company for over two years. Ultimately, the gimmick ran its course as did WCW itself.
The WWF, after buying the rights to WCW, brought Hogan, Hall and Nash back as the New World Order in 2002. This renaissance only lasted a few months.
The company did manage to cash in on a DVD. However, a court case loss to the World Wildlife Fund forced the newly-named World Wrestling Entertainment to have to halt sales of the discs because the content was bearing the World Wrestling Federation emblem.
Fortunately, I had preordered the DVD before the titles had to be pulled.
It wasn't one of WWE's best efforts.
I'm anticipating how the 2012 DVD is.
It's going to be difficult to tell any kind of story of the New World Order without having Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff involved. The pair are currently working for TNA Wrestling so their input will be missing unless WWE feels the need to insert old footage of past interviews. This has been done on previous discs so I would guess it will happen here.
All in all, it could be an interesting documentary to watch. You may need to have the BS meter on, though. WWE does tend to rewrite its own history in regards to anything another company did.
