Bruno Sammartino was approached by World Wrestling Entertainment in the hope that he would agree to be the main inductee at next year's Hall of Fame ceremony.
Sammartino and WWE owner, Vince McMahon, have been divided by their differences since the late 1980s.
A reconciliation between the pair has always been unlikely.
It's very doubtful that Sammartino will accept this current invite which was pitched to the former world champion by McMahon's son-in-law, Paul Levesque (Triple H).
Sammartino was a top draw for the WWF under Vince McMahon senior.
He - along with 'Macho Man' Randy Savage - is one of the most notable names missing from the current list of WWE Hall of Famers.
