The Beckham Snub

There seems to be a lot of people angry at the decision by Team GB coach, Stuart Pearce, to leave David Beckham off the squad for the upcoming Olympic games.

It seems to me that those most vocal about the lack of selection aren't looking at the bigger picture - Beckham hasn't played in a highly competitive league for a very long time.

And that's before we even discuss International football.

The squad has to include a portion of players over the age of twenty-three. These places will go to Ryan Giggs, Craig Bellamy and Micah Richards.

A fair representation of Great British football, if you ask me.

Sure, Beckham is possibly a better example of Great British football when you consider he is the face that fair-weather supporters (or non supporters, for that matter) would identify with British soccer (see what I did there?).

However, it's what happens on the pitch that matters and Pearce must think the other three players are more deserving of a place.

One final thing
Harry Redknapp made mention that Micah Richards wasn't even selected in Roy Hodgson's England squad when criticising Pearce's decision.
I didn't see David Beckham in the England squad, either.
