Andre Villas-Boas came to Chelsea with a lot of hype. He departs with a reputation in tatters.
The Portuguese soccer boss was finally given the sack yesterday after Saturday's 1-0 loss to West Bromwich Albion.
A number of months ago, I wrote on this very blog that the club should stick with him despite the poor run of form the team were experiencing with his tactics as I had a feeling that - after a year or so - things would improve. It seems Roman Abramovich wasn't reading.
I stand by what I wrote. He wasn't given the time and it is this kind of impatience that has seen a plethora of managers enter with so much fanfare only to exit stage left carrying a P45.
While everyone wonders who the next Chelsea manager will be, I'm pondering where AVB ends up.
Will he redeem himself with a job at a top club or will the Chelsea experience mean there are doubters out there not willing to give him a go?
I hope he does get the chance somewhere.
