The Fallout From The Mayweather .v. Ortiz Fight

I watched the Floyd Mayweather versus Victor Ortiz WBC title fight in the early hours of yesterday morning and thought the controversial ending was fair.

Yes, you read that right.

There is certainly a lot of criticism being pointed towards all parties involved in the finish to the match - Mayweather, Ortiz and even the referee, Joe Cortez.

During the fourth round, Ortiz headbutted Mayweather prompting Cortez to call a timeout to deduct a point for the illegal act. While this was going on, Ortiz hugged Mayweather as a way to apologize for his action and then - just as the fight was being restarted - Ortiz attempted another hug. Mayweather hit his opponent with a left hook just as the referee's attention was slightly diverted and then Mayweather landed a right hook to knock down Ortiz.

'You have to defend yourself at all times' has been the saying that was used to excuse Mayweather. And rightfully so.

Larry Merchant - ringside interviewer for HBO in America - held conference with Mayweather following the fight and the two ended up in a war of words. Mayweather told the eighty-year old that he 'didn't know shit' forcing the old guy to respond with 'I wish I was fifty years younger so I could kiss your ass'.

I laughed along with the rest of the world.
